ADL sat down with No Place for Hate® coordiantors Jessica Elliot and Michelle Wiredu to learn more about how Potomac Shores is implementing No Place for Hate.
1.) Why did your school decide to participate in No Place for Hate?
Our mission as a new school is to provide a safe and inclusive environment for students where they can thrive both academically and social/emotionally. We believe that the NPFH initiative will give us a pathway to meet our mission.
2.) How has the decision to participate in No Place for Hate impacted your school environment?
The committee members which consist of students and staff are very eager to meet and continue this initiative.
3.) How do you engage students in leadership roles?
The NPFH committee members are centering our plans around student concerns and needs. We are trying to implement these activities and ensure that the whole school community can participate. We are empowering the students to run the meetings and activities.
4.) What advice would you give to other schools interesting in pursuing No Place for Hate?
In today’s society with social media pushing bullying into the spotlight, it is imperative to have a club centered on combating bullying, defamation and promoting kindness.
